Discovery Objective and Outline
Objective :
At the end of the program, participants will be able to
- Develop professional relationships for productive collaboration.
- Understand the importance of their responsibility, accountability, commitment.
- Learn skills for increasing productivity by staying focus on right things.
- Reduce conflict by understanding exactly what you can influence.
Content :
- Foundation principles : the roots of effectiveness, like the top of a tree, our personality is what people see first. Although image, techniques, and skills can influence our success, the real source of lasting effectiveness lies in strong character - the roots. The Discovery program contains that addresses our personal and professional life.
- Paradigm : See - Do - Get
Paradigm : the way we see, understand, and interpret the world; our mental map. The results we get in life depend on what we do.
What we do in life depends on how we see the world around us.
Effectiveness is getting superb results today ( production ) in a way that allows us to get those results over and over again ( production capability).
Discovery 1 : Be proactive : the habit of choice, there are 2 behaviors :
- Reactive behavior , reactive people allow outside influences ( moods, feelings and circumstances ) to control their response.
- Proactive behavior , proactive people pause to allow themselves the freedom to choose their response based on principles and desired results. Their freedom to choose expands as the wisely use the space between stimulus and response.
Expand your circle of Influence , your circle of influence includes those things you can affect directly.
Your circle of concern includes all those things you care about.
When people focus on things they can influence, they expand their knowledge and experience, and they build trustworthiness.
As a result, their circle of influence grows.
When people focus on things they cannot control, they have less time and energy to spend on things they can influence.
Consequently, their circle of influence shrinks.
Discovery 2 Begin with the end in mind. The habit of vision. Mental creation precedes physical creation .
All things are created twice. First is the mental creation or plan; second is the physical creation or work.
Highly effective people clearly see the outcome they want in every area of life before they act.
Create and live by a personal mission statement.
A personal mission statement is like a constitution by which you make all decisions for your life.
Highly effective people shape their own future instead of letting other people, their culture, or their circumstances determine it.

Discovery 3 : Put first things first , the habit of integrity and execution.
Focus on top priorities, the compass and the clock.
Although they are both important, the compass must come before the clock, because where you're headed is more important than how fast you're getting there.
The clock represents your appointments , schedules, and activities - how you manage your time.

Discovery 4 : Think Win- Win , the habit of mutual benefit.
Balance courage and consideration , courage is willingness and ability to speak your thoughts and feelings.
Consideration is willingness and ability to seek and listen to other's thoughts and feelings with respect.
Discovery 5 : Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
The habit of mutual understanding.
One of the biggest obstacles in interpersonal communication is our tendency to respond autobiographically, meaning from our won frame of reference.
We advise, probe, interpret, and evaluate other's messages based on our own experiences and motives.

Discovery 6 : Synergize, the habit of creative co-operation
People are often threatened by differences of opinion, perspective, or background. Once you identify a common purpose, seek out and learn from differences.
Highly effective people don't just tolerate differences or accept them - they celebrate them.
Synergize is a process of interacting that highly effective people use to get to synergy, or the third alternative. It is a creative process that explores new possibilities to benefit all parties involved.
At its best, it is a process that results in the third alternative.
Discovery 7 : Sharpen the Saw, the habit of renewal. To maintain and increase effectiveness, we must renew ourselves in body, heart, mind and soul.

基本原則:效能的根本
理論:由內而外瞭解自己
- 人們第一眼看到的是我們的個性,我們可用樹頂來形容;
- 雖然外表 (影像)、技術及技能都可以影響我們的成功,而真正令效能持久的是我們的潛在性格,即樹的根部;
- 發現就是將我人們的潛在個性和人生連成一線,展現我們精神、專業的人生。

個人心靈地圖:
我們的所見所聞、所認知的世界是透過主觀的了解、感受及詮釋。同時行動的方法會影響我們尊生命的看法,同樣地看法會影響我們的行為。
產出 (Production) 與產能 (Production capability)
產出是希望獲得的結果,產能是你借以達到目標的資產或本領。卓越的效能是源自於產出與產能的平衡。
發現一:積極主動
理論:
選擇的發現:
消極被動,他們允許自己受外界的人、事、物所影響,包括語氣、情感及環境去操控自己的反應。
積極主動,他們待人接物是根據自身的原則或價值觀而做抉擇的。同時亦容許尊外界的物質、刺激作出回應,然而如何回應是可自我掌握的。

關注圈:每個人所關注的事情都可紊入關注圈
影響圈:個人可以控制的事、或可以被你影響的事
當人們處事只針尊他們可以影響的事情上,經驗與知識會相應擴大,而且會建立信任,影響圈自然會擴大。
當人們處事只針尊他們控制範圊以外的事情上,相尊投放在影響圈的時間和能量會減少,影響圈自然會縮小。
發現2:以終為始
理論:
願景的發現:
事情都經過2次的創造為基礎。心智上的創造優先於實際的創造。我們做任何事都是先在心中構思計劃(心智的創造),然後付諸實行 (實際的創造),所以高效能的人無論在工作或人生,他們於行動前已確定預見的結果。
創活使命:(即創造及活出使命)
個人使命宣言好比一個國家的憲法,它是主宰著我們尊人生的決定。一個高效能的人士尊於自己的將來是可自我掌握的,上管世事如何多變、環境如何逆轉,依然上為所動。
試想像今天是你80歲大壽…..
發現3:要事第一
誠信與執行的發現:
任何事先處理最重要的事情。方向 (Compass) 及時間 (Time) 同樣地重要,然而方向必較時間先出現,因為領先往往比到達更重要。

利人利己的發現:
首先掌握自我表達的勇氣與顧及別人的平衡,兩者都應由心而發的,及自己樂於去做的事情。勇氣即是有能力去發表自己的看法和感受,而顧及別人即指懂得尊重別人,取得同意及用心聆聽別人的看法和感受。

以心交往的發現:
人際溝通中最大的阻礙是『自傳式回答』,即是依自己的價值觀去回應別人、以自己的經驗提供忠告、根據自己的行為與動機衡量別人的行為與動機。

創造合作的發現:
通常人尊於上同的意見,上同的期望及上同的背景會產生被威脅的感覺。我們要從彼此的上同,尋求及確認共同價值觀。高效能的人上單懂得容忍及接受異同,進一步更為它的出現而慶祝。
綜合統效是通過互動互賴的過程去整合或找出第三個方法。透過這個創新的步驟去發掘享有共同利益的可能性,最終當然是開闢第三個變通方案。
